Colonial Calcutta

Light falls across an old staircase somewhere inside a fading colonial building in Calcutta. The worn walls, iron railings, and quiet shadows carry traces of another time, where history still lingers in silence and dust.

This hand-made cyanotype print was created using traditional photographic chemicals, sunlight exposure, water, and a physical negative. The deep blue tones, textured surfaces, and soft imperfections are all natural results of the handmade process, giving the artwork its own atmosphere and character.

Printed slowly by hand on 300 GSM watercolour paper, this piece exists as a single original artwork. No digital reproduction can recreate the same textures, tonal shifts, or marks left behind by light and chemistry.

Part of a six-year exploration of handmade photographic printing, forgotten architecture, and disappearing urban memory.
